There is no official lookout at the minesite. Through the magic of computer graphics, you can see what our hopes are for the future. The Atikokan Mining Attraction would like to obtain funds to construct a lookout pod with interpretive signage, so that visitors can more fully appreciate the minor miracle that has occurred over the past twenty years at the open pit mine site. This would be the first step in bringing the story of Steep Rock Iron Mines and Caland Ore Co. to the world. It is a story worth the telling. Interpretive panels showing what the mine used to look like would emphasize the naturalized change and would help to educate visitors about the mining history and the gigantic impact (both nationally and internationally) of this mine and its contribution to the post-war economic boom.
