Worked underground and above ground, ending up in the shops as service mechanic and then equipment repairman. I can remember one particular Christmas eve when my father came home from an afternoon shift at around midnight, to the weary onlookers anxiously awaiting "Santas" arrival. My childhood visions of "Santa" were somewhat altered from then on when I realized "Santa" was actually a man covered from head to workboots in "iron ore" dust carrying a lunchbox and hardhat. |

| Comments: | i used to live at atikokan when i was a kid. we left there when i was 5. i don't remember much of atikokan, but looking at the steep rock mine naturalization, i do remember looking down from the look out platform at the mining truck's and equipment and thinking they were just little toy trucks. my father was a bank manager there for the royal bank. i remember a big thermometer on the side of the building. i hope to plan a trip back to atikokan this summer with my parents and my wife and 2 kids. |

Regards rockhounding: see which local hardware stores keep geological type hammers in stock. They start for about $50 in T Bay. Ask your local hardware guys, or your geologist buddy whether any type of common hammer is a suitable |
